On April 16, 2012, a hearing was held in order to begin preparations for the trial against Juan Aliste, Freddy Fuentevilla, and Marcelo Villarroel in the Seventh Circuit Court. However, the defense requested new expert reports, while Fuentevilla petitioned for his public defender to be changed.
Aliste, Fuentevilla, and Villarroel are charged with various crimes, among them the October 18, 2007 bank robbery during which motorcycle cop Luis Moyano was killed and another police officer was wounded.
Preparation for the oral trial is scheduled to begin on August 6.
The prosecutor is requesting the following sentences for the defendants:
Aliste: provisional life sentence plus 20 years for three robberies as well as homicide and attempted homicide of police officers
Fuentevilla: standard life sentence plus 15 years for two robberies as well as homicide and attempted homicide of police officers
Villarroel: 18 years for two robberies
